Happy Plants!
The seedlings are looking good, so far so good!
Everything has seemed to come up, except Basil and the peppers.. But I can see the Basil just starting to peek its head out, so I am not to worried.. and the peppers… well I dunno, its my first attempt at that, and I am thinking it might just not be warm enough for them.. we’ll see..
I went ahead and planted most of the rest this weekend.. Tomatoes, Squash, Cucumbers, More herbs.. I am so excited they are all looking really great!
I havent’ started my sweet corn inside yet, but I am thinking I will wait a while, maybe around April, when I put some of these in the ground
Happy Planting!
Garden Time – Planting Seeds!
It’s that time again! Garden Time!
I am attempting to grow seedlings in my garage this year instead of my kitchen. This past weekend on Saturday and Sunday I set it all up and took pictures!
If your going to grow seeds inside, you must have light! Its manditory.. I’ve tried to grow seeds indoors for 3 years, last year was my first year I had some success, and it was the first year I had some good lights. Winter sunlight just doesn’t seem to be enough, no matter how much you think you have of it.
Seeds and seedlings need about 12 – 14 hours of SUN, thats a lot! So I set up a shop light with a warm lightblub and a cool lightbulb to simulate the best range of the sun. Here’s hoping this year will be even better than last!
If you don’t have lights, my next best wisdom to you is to plant your seeds in small manageable containers.. Allow them to “sprout” indoors then, do the dirty work of transporting them outside to a sunny location during the day and bring them back in at night, so they get natural light without windows preventing light coming in etc.. and they don’t die from the cold temps at night. I did this last year with my corn and it seemed to work well.
Heres the very start of my planting – I heart the burpee containers.. I know I know.. their plastic, non green, but I have reused them year to year.. I love them because they are self watering, and I always, always tend to OVERwater.. but with the Burpee Containers, my plants get the perfect amount of water and I only have to water once a week!
I have successfully planted Broccolli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Basil, Lettuce, Argula, Sage, Kohlorabi and some Orange Peppers.. Here’s hoping they sprout soon.
And here is my faithful helper!
